Darryl James
launched the only Black owned rap music publication, Rap Sheet in 1992. He is the author of "Bridging The Black Gender Gap," which is also the basis of a national seminar series. James was awarded the 2004 Non-fiction Award for his book on the Los Angeles Riots at the Seventh Annual Black History Month Book Fair and Conference in Chicago. Jackson Jr., elected in 1973 as the first African-American to run a major Southern city, helped create an Atlanta that boasted the world's busiest airport, encouraged minorities to do business with the government, hosted the Olympic Games and attracted people to a black mecca.

ATLANTAHAPPS.COM salutes this pioneer who led the struggle to give African-Americans the opportunity to succeed in Atlanta.
