July 4, 2010, Sunday, Legendary Fourth at Lenox Square - This annual Fourth of July bash celebrates its 51st year. Between 350,000 and 500,000 people are expected. The hub of the action is in front of the mall. The Kids Zone play area opens at noon. Motown and beach music cover band City Heat takes the stage at 6 p.m. Party on the Moon, a band that played President Obama’s Inauguration Ball, headlines with a wide range of covers from Lady Gaga to Elvis Presley. Fireworks take place at dusk and last about 16 minutes, with around 1,200 fireworks making up the finale. With the throngs expected, it might be worth springing for the special Premier Parking at the nearby Westin hotel. For $15, guests get to park close to the event and get priority departure with help from the Atlanta Police Department. A portion of the parking fees benefit the Simon Youth Foundation. July 3-5, 2010, FSU Flying High Circus at Callaway Gardens -Just a little over an hour from metro Atlanta lies the stay-cation destination of Callaway Gardens. Although adults might fancy the many acres of flora, most kids will gravitate toward the FSU Flying High Circus, a Callaway Gardens tradition since 1960. Underneath a big top just steps away from Robin Lake Beach, Florida State University students show off their circus skills throughout the summer, flying through the air with the greatest of ease, performing gravity-defying acrobatics and clowning around. Admission is included with a ticket into the Callaway Gardens grounds. A host of other inclusive activities are available, such as swimming and lounging at Robin Lake Beach, trekking through the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center, and watching the Birds of Prey show. The action gets amped up July 3-5 for the July Fourth Star Spangled Beach Party featuring live music, fireworks and more.

The National Black Arts Festival is a summer festival that's among the highlights of Atlanta's annual calendar of events. Held every July, the much-acclaimed Black Arts Festival showcases performing arts, literature and visual arts produced by creative artists of African descent.
Artists featured during the 2010 National Black Arts Festival will include such well-known African-American performers as Atlanta's own DJ Kemit, funk and jazz musician Roy Ayers, songstress Lizz Wright, Jazz trombonist Wycliffe Gordon and many more. Musical performances, creative dance and other exciting events will make this festival come to life!
Also on the 2010 National Black Arts Festival schedule are the NBAF Artists Market and a Children's Education Village. Attendees at this year's National Black Arts Festival may participate in a DNA project that will allow them to trace their African roots. The National Black Arts Festival was first held in Atlanta in 1988.
