June 5, 2009, Friday, ATLANTA FALCONS DEFENSIVE END CHAUNCEY DAVIS TACKLES SCHOOL BULLYING

NFL STAR DAVIS ADDRESSES ATLANTA METRO STUDENTS ABOUT BULLYING, SELF-ESTEEM ON JUNE 5

Atlanta Falcons’ Defensive End Chauncey Davis is tackling something beside an NFL opponent- he’s tackling school bullying. Davis, along with DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May and Orrin Hudson of “Be Someone Inc.” will launch a special anti-bullying campaign aimed at youth in the Atlanta Metro area on June 5, at 2 p.m. at the Browns Mill Recreation Center at 5101 Browns Mill Rd. The event will address issues of bullying, self-esteem and general health/wellness related topics.

“Something has to be done to combat this reckless behavior of bullying and to help build the self-esteem of both the person being bullied and the bully,” said Davis, whose started the Chauncey Davis Foundation to address health and wellness related issues in the community. “As adults, if we don’t intervene now, we will hear more and more reports of suicides, gun violence, depression, drug/alcohol abuse, higher dropout rates and more with our young people.”

The event consists of approximately 45 minutes of motivational speakers, question and answer sessions and more. In addition to tackling the issue of teen bullying, Davis, May, Hudson, DeKalb County Gang Unit and others will discuss the importance of self-esteem and teamwork.

“Recently in Atlanta, a young student committed suicide after his family said he was constantly bullied, teased and taunted at school,” recalled Davis. “That’s one life that could have been saved. He could have become a professional football player, teacher, astronaut, lawyer, doctor or even the President. But now, we will never know.”
